Academic status: 1st year Master's Student
Major: Speech-Language Pathology
Expected date of graduation: April 2011
University: University of Pittsburgh
Area of professional interest: To be determined
I joined NSSLHA because: I wanted to be involved in the organization in order to educate myself on the current developments are in our field. I am passionate about this career and want to use every option available to me to further my knowledge in this area. I feel my experience in this organization will only help me to become the best possible clinician someday. I also joined in order to reach out to the community and help in any way I am able.
I applied for a position on the NSSLHA Executive Council because: I would like the opportunity to have a leadership position and share my ideas with other NSSLHA chapters. I would like to help them improve their chapter and their academic community. I have been the Vice President and President of Pitt's chapter for the past two years respectively and it has given me a passion for the organization. I would like to share the things our chapter has done and improve it as well as the other chapters in my region.
My vision for my region is: An improvement in the chapter participation in my region. I think it is important to get the point across that this organization is a gateway to our professional careers and provides opportunity to better ourselves both academically and personally. I would like to make this a universal idea among the chapters in my region. Also, as I stated above, my vision is to establish a view of NSSLHA that is positive and beneficial to every student in speech-language pathology or audiology.
