What are the hours of operation for the national NSSLHA office?

The national NSSLHA office operates from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The office is closed on major holidays and/or whenever ASHA issues administrative leave to staff.

What business does the National Office handle?

All matters associated with NSSLHA or students in communication science programs should be directed to the NSSLHA national office, including:

  • Inquiries regarding NSSLHA membership

  • Inquiries regarding the establishment or operation of a local NSSLHA Chapter or verification of the status of an existing NSSLHA chapter

  • Regional Project Grant applications or inquiries

  • NSSLHA Honors Program applications or inquiries

  • Inquiries related to NSSLHA publications

How are resources shared between NSSLHA and ASHA?

NSSLHA maintains autonomy over the operations of the association and ASHA aides the national association in delivering services to its members.

ASHA makes available benefits to NSSLHA members (i.e., ASHA journals, insurance, reduced convention registration, conversion program discounts, etc.).

ASHA provides administrative resources to NSSLHA members and national NSSLHA staff (i.e., office space, Action Center support, membership development, marketing, human resources, information systems, reprographics, etc.).

ASHA provides NSSLHA with Web site support and all financial record keeping.

What are the responsibilities of the NSSLHA Director of Operations?

The Director of Operations provides information through general mailings and correspondence to individual NSSLHA members, NSSLHA Chapters and potential chapters, and others interested in the Association. The Director of Operations also:

  • Oversees the processing of NSSLHA membership applications

  • Provides guidance to local chapters regarding chapter activities, programs, and NSSLHA policy

  • Serves as liaison between the NSSLHA Executive Council and NSSLHA members and chapters, and between NSSLHA and ASHA

  • Coordinates Executive Council meetings, takes minutes at meetings, and serves as a resource to the Executive Council and its committees

  • Assists the Executive Director with research, correspondence, orientation of newly elected Council members, interpretation of bylaws, and budgetary matters

  • Assists the NSSLHA Convention Consultant in coordinating NSSLHA activities at the ASHA Convention

  • Works with the ASHA Membership Services Director in planning NSSLHA membership recruitment materials

  • Serves as the managing editor of the NSSLHA newsletter, NSSLHA Now, and develops publicity for NSSLHA in The ASHA Leader

  • Completes items as assigned by the NSSLHA Executive Council

What are the responsibilities of the administrative assistants?

The administrative assistants support the director of operations in providing information and preparing correspondence for individual NSSLHA members, NSSLHA Chapters and potential chapters, and others interested in the Association. The administrative assistants also:

  • Processes NSSLHA membership applications for all new applicants

  • Oversees the fulfillment of NSSLHA membership requests and all mailings from the National Office

  • Manages the NSSLHA booth during the ASHA Convention and supervises the volunteer staff
