[Sold Out] NSSLHA Comedy Night: The Second City
Friday, November 14
7:30 pm–1:00 am
Founded in Chicago in 1959, The Second City has become the premier training ground for the comedy world’s best and brightest. Its alumni list reads like a Who’s Who of American Comedy: Mike Nichols, Elaine May, Alan Arkin, Joan Rivers, Robert Klein, Peter Boyle, Harold Ramis, John Belushi, Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, George Wendt, Martin Short, John Candy, Shelly Long, Chris Farley, Mike Meyers, and countless others.
Not only will an evening with The Second City provide a chance to see comedy stars in the making, but an opportunity to see absolutely hilarious satire and cutting edge improvisation. The first half is typically made up of sketches scripted by the performers. After intermission, members usually do an improvised bit with ideas from the audience. After the show formally ends, cast members announce whether they will return for a late-night improv set.
The Second City is located in Old Town which is one of Chicago’s most unique and inviting neighborhoods. Known for its diverse and exciting collection of restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues, Old Town is located at the intersection of North Avenue and Wells Street. Old Town is also home to such legendary businesses as The Up Down Tobacco Shop, The Fudge Pot, The Fireplace Inn, House of Glunz, O’Brien’s Restaurant, and The Old Town Aquarium.
Shuttle buses will leave at 7:30 pm from McCormick Place to The Second City Theatre. Enjoy dinner on your own at one of the many restaurants within walking distance from The Second City Theatre. Return to the theatre no later than 10:15 pm for the 11:00 pm show. Shuttle buses will return to the hotels beginning at 1:00 am. You are free to continue your Old Town experience and take a cab later.
Purchase your tickets on the preregistration form for $19 each. In Chicago, tickets will be $24. Space is limited so be sure to buy your tickets early.
