Legislative Council Membership Forum
Saturday, November 15 at 9:45 am
Hilton Chicago

The Legislative Council, along with the Executive Board, shapes ASHA’s future direction and, at the ASHA Convention in Chicago on Saturday, November 15, they would like to hear from you.

During the ASHA Legislative Council (LC) meeting, members have an opportunity to speak directly to councilors by attending the Membership Forum.  The Membership Forum will be held at the Hilton Chicago.  ASHA members may sign up to speak by completing the Request to Speak Form at the ASHA Information Booth in the lobby of the McCormick Place Convention Center or in the Legislative Council Workroom located at the Hilton.  All forms must be submitted to the Legislative Council Workroom by 7:00 pm, Friday, November 14.  The list and order of speakers will be posted outside the Legislative Council Workroom by 7:00 am Saturday, November 15.

Aware that many members won’t be in Chicago for the Convention, the LC is also offering members another way to participate—by e-mail or fax.  If you are not able to attend the Convention, please submit your thoughts and comments by Friday, October 31, as follows:

  • Your message should be no more than 500 words.
  • If you would like your comments to go specifically to the Audiology/Hearing Science Assembly or the Speech-Language Pathology/Speech or Language Science Assembly, please designate that in your message. The Assembly Membership Forums will be held on Saturday, November 15, at 1:00 pm.
  • E-mail your comments to Natalie Wilson or by fax at 301- 571-0469. All comments from members will be distributed to the Legislative Councilors.

Expert Consultation on Serving Multicultural Populations
Saturday, November 15
1:30–2:30 pm
McCormick Place Convention Center, Room E262

Box lunches will be available for purchase

ASHA’s Multicultural Issues Board is pleased to provide a unique opportunity for Convention attendees to consult with experts on service delivery to multicultural populations. You will be able to participate in informal discussions with experts in the areas of child language and phonology, adult neurogenics, fluency, voice disorders, and audiology practice, as they relate to serving culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) clients. Participants should bring questions, concerns, and cases to present for review and discussion.

This session will give you practical recommendations for handling difficult cases, and ideas for managing expectations of administrators and families, and will enhance your ability to work with this increasing portion of our patient population. We invite you to take advantage of this opportunity to network and develop valuable connections that will benefit you and your clients.

If you are interested in attending this special program, please e-mail convention@asha.org with Expert Consultation Lunch in the subject line. Include your name and e-mail address. Indicate if you are interested in purchasing a box lunch for the meeting (cost $15) and if you have any special food requirements. Soft drinks and bottled water will be provided. If you cannot e-mail, you may fax the information to 301-571-0454.
