Pre-Convention Conference
14th Annual Research Symposium

Social, Economic, and Environmental Influences on Disorders of Hearing, Language, and Speech
Monday & Tuesday, November 15–16
Wyndham Philadelphia Franklin Plaza Hotel
Cosponsored by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) and Super Duper Publications

This Symposium is designed to stimulate, educate, and guide research on emerging topics in communication sciences and disorders (CSD). Seasoned investigators will present cutting-edge research that has important clinical implications for the study of CSD. In addition, the Symposium will provide an open forum for discussion and foster continuity among scientists, clinicians, and new investigators interested in CSD research. The goal of this year's Symposium is to update participants on the social, economic, and environmental influences on hearing, language, and speech disorders, including:

  • Alcohol, drug exposure, and nutritional influences
  • HIV and communication
  • Incarceration and literacy
  • Socio-economic status and cultural influences on language
  • The effects of anemias and allergies

The first day of the Symposium will feature a keynote address, poster session highlighting the research of "budding scientists," and a networking reception. Additional presentations from experts in the field, a panel discussion, and small-group roundtable discussions will follow on the second day.

To receive additional information and to register for the Symposium, please call the ASHA Action Center at 800-498-2071 or visit the Research Symposium page on ASHA's Web site.
