2005 Convention Activities

Heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death for women—a fact most women don't know. Every year since 1984, more women than men have died of heart disease, and yet women are more likely to be misdiagnosed. Listen to Your Heart has been organized by ASHA as a benefit to our members. We feel that our members, both female and male, need to be informed of the risks women face—for themselves and for the women they love.

ASHA's Listen to Your Heart Campaign included the following activities and give-aways at the 2005 ASHA Convention in San Diego, CA. Find out more about ASHA's Listen to Your Heart Campaign

Free Pedometers
They count your steps, the distance you've walked, the calories you've burned (they even tell time and have a built-in alarm clock)—we think they're pretty snazzy. In fact, we challenge you to take 10,000 steps every day. Why 10,000 steps? A person who walks 10,000 steps a day will burn between 2,000 and 3,500 extra calories per week, achieving a vastly better health profile and longer life span.

Listen to Your Heart Poster

Commissioned just for you, this poster was created by noted California artist André Cohen. Inspired by the Fauves (André Derain and Henri Matisse among them), André uses his expressive style to breathe life into everyday scenes and familiar objects.
