New Investigator Roundtable

The ninth annual New Investigator Roundtable will provide a venue for individuals who are in the beginning stages of their research careers to interact with more seasoned investigators. Through informal "roundtable" discussions, new investigators (graduate and doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty) will meet with individuals in the professions who can offer advice concerning successful careers in research (e.g., beginning a research career, balancing research and other activities, and obtaining external funding).

The theme of this year's symposium, which will encompass four Convention program sessions, is Issues of Development and Plasticity of the Auditory System. Sessions are open to all Convention registrants; there is no additional registration fee. Symposium participants are strongly encouraged to attend all four sessions.

The posters of minority student travel award recipients will be on display during the symposium. Attendees will be given an opportunity to meet with the award recipients to discuss their research projects and findings.

Closing Sunset Party

Join ASHA in celebrating the Foundation's 60th Anniversary at the Convention's closing party Saturday evening at one of Miami's hippest and trendiest beach spots. Nikki Beach, located on the southernmost tip of South Beach, is indisputably the premier address for fun and relaxation. You can enjoy saying farewell to friends and colleagues under the swaying palms, in an alcove of teepees, or while lounging on exotic bamboo beds. Experience the glitz and glamour of Nikki Beach, the fun and excitement of the dance floor, and the beautiful scenery of its magical gardens-all with the beach and ocean only steps away.

What better way to close the Convention than with a party at sunset. Plan now to join the fun on Saturday afternoon to experience one of South Beach's most exciting sites.

There will be food, cash bars, music, and areas for sitting with friends and colleagues to say good-bye until the next ASHA Convention.

If you will be at the party, please order a FREE ticket on the registration form so we have an accurate count for ordering the refreshments. There is a $20 charge for each guest.

ASHFoundation Live Auction

Mark your calendar and purchase your ticket to a fun and exciting evening following the Opening General Session. Get your friends together and plan to bid on magnificent items and vacation trips together. This is for a great cause. All proceeds benefit the Research and Scholarship programs of the ASHFoundation!

Our live auction will feature a wide variety of items, including some spectacular jewelry, historic sports memorabilia, beautiful artwork, and amazing vacation trips. This will be a fun, fast-moving event where you will enjoy the excitement of bidding and winning.

Here are a few of the trips that will be auctioned.

San Francisco Wine Country. The highest bidder and companion will jet to the City by the Bay for a great escape. The two of you will spend four days/three nights in the lap of luxury at one of San Francisco's finest four-star hotels. This trip includes round-trip airfare for two from your nearest major airport, accommodations, wine tastings, and a sunset cruise.

Cooking School in Tuscany. Learn fine Italian cooking from the culinary masters! You will stay in Florence, Italy, for your first three nights. While there, see Michelangelo's "David" and marvel at the other artwork in this beautiful city. From Florence, you'll head for the gardens of Tuscany. Your next three nights will be in an 18th century Tuscan home remodeled to 21st century standards on the estate of La Riserva de Fizzano, a world-class cooking school and winery. Includes round-trip airfare from your nearest major airport, six nights accommodations, and a two-day cooking course at La Riserva de Fizzano.

Ooh La La Paris! Nowhere is quite as romantic and lively as Paris, France! On this spectacular trip for two, you'll tour historic Paris, made famous by artists, writers, and painters. You'll cruise the River Seine, wander up the Eiffel Tower and around the Louvre, and enjoy some of the best food in the world. This seven-day/six-night trip includes round-trip airfare and your deluxe hotel near the Arc de Triomphe.

Golf in Ireland. You and a companion will fly to always-green Shannon, Ireland, and set off to explore the western part of this green and glorious island. Spend five relaxing nights in a fine hotel, surrounded by spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean crashing onto the rocks that line the bay. Your last night will be in the incredible, historically preserved, 800-year-old Glin Castle! You will also enjoy two rounds of golf at one of Ireland's most historic courses. Includes round-trip airfare from your nearest major airport, six nights accommodations, a rental car, golf, and a hearty Irish breakfast each morning.

Mediterranean Cruise. Don't pass up this once-in-a-lifetime vacation experience! Fly to Venice, Italy, where you will embark on an incredible seven-night cruise of the Mediterranean. Your adventurous voyage will include visits to the beautiful Greek ports of Katakolon, Santorini, and Rhodes. You will explore ancient temples and ruins and see dazzling white houses clinging to 1,000 foot high cliffs. Your last stop will be Dubrovnik, Croatia, where you can stroll through the marble-paved squares and marvel at the medieval houses. This spectacular trip for two includes airfare, all meals, accommodations on your cruise ship, and memories for a lifetime!

Purchase your $20 ticket for the live auction on the registration form, which includes transportation via shuttle bus from the convention center to the Intercontinental Hotel and return to your ASHA hotel. There will also be a cash bar and plenty of snacks. Tickets are limited, so purchase early.
