(Rockville, MD - October 20, 2006) Excellence in volunteerism by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) staff was recognized today when the Rockville-based organization received the 2006 Corporate Volunteer Council of Montgomery County Award. ASHA was honored as a company with established corporate volunteer programs making unique, creative and significant contributions to the community.
"I am very proud of my ASHA national office colleagues who give selflessly of their time and talents," declared ASHA Executive Director, Arlene Pietranton.
The Corporate Volunteer Council of Montgomery County (CVC-MC) will present the award for a medium-sized business today at an awards breakfast at the Marriott Bethesda North Hotel and Conference Center.
ASHA has a long history of community involvement including work with the Literacy Council of Montgomery County, drives for donations to area food banks, area road cleanups, fundraising book sales, and student mentoring at Garrett Park Elementary School. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, a food drive supporting both relocated evacuees and local families resulted in the collection of 290 lbs. of food and diapers.
"This honor is shared by all staff who donated everything from their time to school supplies over the past year," stated Andrea Moxley, Coordinator of the ASHA Employee Volunteer Program.
ASHA is the national professional, scientific, and credentialing association for more than 123,000 audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists.
