(Rockville, MD – September 19, 2008) The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is among the top ten businesses in Maryland that were named last night in the first ever The Gazette of Politics and Business "Exceptional 53 Awards" program.
ASHA ranked sixth out of 53 businesses across the state that were recognized by The Gazette for their high revenue growth, employment satisfaction, community service and innovation.
"It is quite an honor to be ranked so highly among businesses in Maryland that are considered exceptional," ASHA Executive Director Arlene Pietranton says. "We extend our congratulations to our fellow award recipients. This recognition will serve as a motivator to continue to strive to be exceptional in the important areas covered by this award."
ASHA was recognized for consistently being on the cutting edge of health-related developments, its strong and active commitment to social responsibility and community outreach, and its "great place to work" attributes that include a meaningful mission and comprehensive benefits.
Recently, ASHA became the first and only non-profit association in Maryland to have its building receive a Gold level certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). ASHA plans to unveil the plaque it has received from the USCGC that marks the achievement at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 24. The occasion will feature remarks by Steven Piguet, a founding board member of the USGBC and co-chair of the organization's national governance committee. Media are invited to attend and tour ASHA's building at 2200 Research Boulevard, Rockville.
