ASHA will hold its joint Health Care/Business Institute 2008 on April 5-6 in St. Louis. The event—which offers concurrent tracks in health care and business issues for one registration fee—will address critical issues in both clinical and management aspects of speech-language pathology practice in health care settings.
The Health Care conference offers cutting-edge presentations in three programming tracks: adult dysphagia, adult neurogenics, and pediatrics/early intervention. Speakers include clinical experts in speech-language pathology as well as a dietitian, a pediatric gastroenterologist, and a developmental psychologist. The emphasis is on evidence-based approaches to assessment and treatment and updates on current research, with a focus on practice implications.
The Business Institute provides solutions for SLPs in their roles as private practitioners, supervisors, and administrators. Business-savvy SLPs and university business faculty will present topics including coding and reimbursement, documentation, contracts, negotiation, pricing, stress and time management, and more. At roundtable discussions, participants will have the opportunity to get answers to business questions specific to different practice types.
The keynote speaker will be Susan Miller, founder of Voicetrainer LLC, a voice and communication consulting business, who will address how to communicate with clarity, power, and impact. Miller's analysis of presidential candidates' voices was featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal on Nov. 3, 2007.
Registrants may tailor the conference to their own interests, moving freely between Health Care and Business Institute tracks and sessions. One registration fee offers full access to both events.
