Description:
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: What Professionals Need to Know is a set that includes a book and CD-ROM. It is suitable for all professionals in hospital, school, university, and clinic settings working with patients with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The purpose of this set is to provide the reader with both a broad overview of ADHD's many facets and resources for professionals and families. It provides practical information pertinent to both assessment and intervention. The accompanying CD-ROM of Study Mores is filled with printable checklists and tables of information.
Critique:
This set is especially useful for school personnel, and helpful for health-care personnel. The gems of this book are the chapters on management and remediation in ADHD, the resources section and the quick and easy CD-ROM. It includes excellent practical tips for classroom modifications and strategies for the student with ADHD. Within the book, words are defined in the margin so professionals at every level of experience can benefit from the contents. Checklists and tables provided on the CD-ROM are very easy to print and use. The clinician, however, may need to cross reference items on the checklists with definitions in the book. It took this reviewer 4 ½ hours to read the book cover the cover and skim the CD-ROM for ease of use.
Overall, this set is cost effective at $60.00 for the professional looking for a good general and clinically relevant resource on the topic of ADHD. The only drawback to this set is that the through review of literature in the book will quickly be outdated, due to the speed at which research is being done in the area of ADHD. The very practical intervention and resource sections will no doubt remain applicable and timely.
