Is Stress Part of Your Lifestyle? According to member feedback, the answer for ASHA members is overwhelmingly "yes." Learning how to manage stress is vital to both your professional and personal success. After all, stress weakens your immune system, disrupts your ability to make decisions, and steals your sleep. Stress is not like other illnesses—we can't eliminate it, but we can manage it.
Created especially with you, our members, in our mind, The Breathe Program was designed to increase your knowledge of the health risks associated with stress, as well as to provide you with techniques to cope with stress in a healthy way. Breathe marks the launch of our second health-related initiative following the debut of Listen to Your Heart at the 2005 Convention. Listen to Your Heart was an awareness program that focused on the alarming trend of women and heart disease.
The impetus for these initiatives grew out of the Membership Services Team's sincere desire to address needs that affect you as a person and as a professional. We applaud the work you do serving those with communication disorders tirelessly and from the heart—and we recognize that your career can be highly stressful. We want you to be healthy so you can continue what you're doing for a long time to come.
