NSSLHA Chapter Honors
NSSLHA Chapter Honors are awarded to the NSSLHA chapter that demonstrates a significant combination of: an awareness of student issues and concerns, outreach to the community, educational opportunities, and social and fund-raising activities promoting both the professions and national NSSLHA.
The recipient of the Chapter of the Year award receives:
- A $500 stipend (contingent on the availability of funding)
- A certificate presented at the NSSLHA Luncheon and Awards Ceremony during NSSLHA Day at the ASHA Convention
The nominating procedures for this award are simple:
- Complete the Chapter Recognition Program Form online.
- The deadline for this nomination is June 1. Nominations must be received in the national office by the deadline date or they will not be considered.
- Nominations will ONLY be accepted electronically.
- The chapter or university logo is appreciated but not required. Electronic photographs, videos, or links to social networking sites or websites are appreciated as supporting documentation for the nomination. Supporting materials or links to supporting materials may be sent electronically to nsslhaprograms@asha.org.
Guidelines for the Selection of Chapter Honors
Adopted at the March 2009 Meeting of the NSSLHA Executive Council
How is a local chapter nominated for Chapter Honors?
- Only local chapters that have met the minimum qualifications (Bronze Standard) as defined by the Chapter Recognition Program will be considered for Chapter Honors.
- Chapters that have met the Gold Standard as defined by the Chapter Recognition Program are automatically considered for the Chapter Honors. In the case of multiple Gold-level chapters, the Executive Council will vote to determine the chapter to received the honor.
Who may nominate a local chapter for Chapter Honors?
- Any member of the Executive Committee of the local chapter
- The Chapter Advisor and/or Co-Advisor
- A Regional Councilor
Process of Selection
The Call for Nominations period runs from January to June. Nominations are only accepted electronically and may include electronic photographs, videos, or links to social networking sites or websites to support the nomination.
Submissions are reviewed by the national office to confirm eligibility. Submissions are then reviewed by the NSSLHA Honors Committee. The Honors Committee recommends candidates for consideration by the Executive Council.
Nominee Requirements
- Local chapters must be in good standing with the student association.
- Local chapters must meet the minimum requirements (Bronze Standard) as defined by the Chapter Recognition Program.
