National CSD Career Awareness Day
Checklist
5-6 months before the event
__ RC meets with the NSSLHA Chapter Advisor and Officers to
discuss plans for National CSD Career Awareness Day.
__ RC and/or NSSLHA Chapter representative secure signatures
for activity commitment form.
__ RC and/or NSSLHA Chapter representative secure facilities
for activity.
__ RC and/or NSSLHA Chapter representative contact local state
association and invite representatives attend as speakers and/or
to provide materials/handouts for the activity.
__ RC and/or NSSLHA Chapter representative work with the
university recruitment office (or its equivalent) to make contact
with local high school representatives and/or community college
and undergraduate recruiters to invite students.
4-5 months before the event
__ RC and/or NSSLHA Chapter representative follow-up with the
university recruitment office to determine projected
attendance/interest in the event. Continue this action until the
desired number of contacts has been met AND confirmation of
attendance is secured.
__ RC and/or NSSLHA Chapter representative follow-up with the
state association contact. Continue this action until a
representative has been identified.
3-4 months before the event
__ RC and/or NSSLHA Chapter representative submit activity
commitment form to the national office.
__ RC and/or NSSLHA Chapter representative start promoting the
event in the local media, through the university press, and to
local high schools, community colleges, and surrounding
university programs.
__ RC and/or NSSLHA Chapter representative work with the
university communication's department to videotape and/or
photograph the event.
2-3 months before the event
__ RC and/or NSSLHA Chapter representative follow-up with
university representatives, ensuring that all dates are confirmed
and use of facilities is confirmed. Update all parties on
progress to date and address any new questions/concerns that may
have arisen.
__ RC and/or NSSLHA Chapter representative should rehearse the
agenda and day's presentation and identify any potential
challenges.
__ RC and/or NSSLHA Chapter representative develop an
alternate plan should some unforeseen event occur at the
university.
__ RC and/or NSSLHA Chapter representative arrange videotaped
clinic observations (if necessary) or secure permissions to
observe clinical sessions.
__ RC and/or NSSLHA Chapter representative confirms who will
conduct hearing screenings. Prepare for the appropriate number of
attendees.
1-2 months before the event
__ National office will forward materials to the chapters.
__ State Association should forward materials to the
chapters.
__ RC and/or NSSLHA Chapter representative confirm
video/photography arrangements with the university's
communication department.
__ RC and/or NSSLHA Chapter representative follow-up with the
university recruitment office follow-up with the high school
representatives to make sure that directions have been
communicated and information for parking at the university has
been communicated.
__ Assign work assignments and responsibilities to local
NSSLHA members. Designate one individual to serve as the
"point" person for that area. Make sure everyone
working the event understands the role of the "point"
person and what to do if there are problems.
Day of the event
__ Have Fun!
__ Make sure there are greeters at the university parking lot
to show students where to go to register.
__ Make sure that all students that attend register.
__ Assign each student an identifying marker that will
determine which small group module they will attend.
__ Make sure that any local media present has an opportunity
to interview a student, a high school representative, a
university official, a state association representative and some
one from the NSSLHA chapter.
__ Make sure that students complete the evaluation forms. Do
not provide giveaways until you receive the evaluation form.
__ Make sure the high school representatives complete the
evaluation form.
2-4 weeks after the event
__ Mail the evaluation forms and any left over handouts back
to the national office.
__ Follow-up on any video and photography projects. Send a
copy of the video or pictures to the national office.
__ Send thank you notes to university officials and others
that helped with the event.
