Executive Council members in attendance were President Allison Tran, President-Elect Ziyan Owens, Vice President for Finance Bridget Slagle, Vice President for Planning María Ángel, Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy Collin Sexton, Vice President for Programming (AuD) Katherine Kingsbury, Vice President for Programming (SLP) Hailey Carrasco, Vice President for Student State Officers (Western Region) Lucy Carvalho, Vice President for Student State Officers (Central Region) Ashley Schultheis, Vice President for Student State Officers (Northeastern Region) Aliyah Hodges, Vice President for Student State Officers (Southern Region) Kensley Brewis, and NSSLHA National Advisor Dr. Erica Ellis.
NSSLHA Senior Director Alexis Redmond and guest speakers, Doanne Ward-Williams, CCC-SLP, Senior Director, State Affairs for ASHA, and Kevin Kock, AuD, MPH, CCC-A, Vice President for Audiology Practice, ASHA Board of Directors, were in attendance.
Opening Remarks
The Spring 2026 NSSLHA Executive Council meeting was called to order at 11:01 a.m. ET on Sunday, March 22, 2026, by President Allison Tran.
Leadership Activity
Tran led a team building activity with all council members.
Strategic Plan Update
Ángel led the EC in exercises to begin the planning process for the 2027-2029 strategic plan, including providing an update on the progress of the key performance indicators (KPIs) from the 2024-2026 Strategic Plan.
Leadership Workshop: Transition from Student to Professional
Ellis led a discussion along with guest panelists Ward-Williams and Kock on career paths, leadership, and navigating leadership opportunities and challenges.
Student Leadership Application & Review
Council members discussed criteria and a plan for the selection of the 2026-2028 Executive Council slate.
National Advisor and National Office Updates
Ellis provided an update that included a reminder about the ASHA Convention call for papers. Redmond provided an update on membership, programs, student leader onboarding, and national office activities.
