Executive Council Meeting Report

The NSSLHA Executive Council (EC) met virtually on November 14, 2020. Here, you’ll find the Summary Report of the meeting.

Executive Council members in attendance were President Jordan Girola, President-Elect Adrienne Graves, Vice President for Finance Miya Wilson, Vice President for Planning Alison Dungca, Vice President for Academic Affairs Melanie Alcala, Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy Natalie Sfeir, Vice President for Programming (AuD) Salvatore Paporto, Vice President for Programming (SLP) Rebecca Willer, Vice President for Student State Officers (Western Region) Leila Regio, Vice President for Student State Officers (Central Region) Kaylee Genzel, Vice President for Student State Officers (Northeastern Region) Kate Phelps, Vice President for Student State Officers (Southern Region), Melissa Schenley, and NSSLHA National Advisor Dr. Kia Johnson.

NSSLHA Program Director Gennith Johnson, ASHA Chief Staff Officer for Operations Kyle Vickers, ASHA Chief Executive Officer Arlene Pietranton, ASHA President Theresa Rodgers, ASHA President-Elect A. Lynn Williams, ASHA Past President Shari B. Robertson, and ASHA Wellbeing Navigator Sally Cortez, were in attendance.

Opening Remarks

The Fall 2020 NSSLHA EC business meeting was called to order at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2020, by President Jordan Girola.

Leadership Activity

Girola led a team-building activity with all EC members.

National Advisor Update

Dr. Johnson provided a National Advisor update that included reminders for the EC members to continue mentorship with their ASHA Board of Directors mentors.

ASHA Presidential Team Update

Rodgers, Williams, Robertson, Pietranton, and Vickers joined the meeting to discuss current activities at ASHA and answered questions from the EC.

EC Updates

Members of the EC provided updates related to National NSSLHA's virtual fall events, including Student Advocacy Day, Office Hours, Speed Networking, and Raw Conversations. Regio, Genzel, Phelps, and Schenley shared updates from their regions and ideas for increasing engagement with chapters. EC members also provided updates regarding their ASHA committees.

Leadership Activity

Dr. Johnson led a leadership discussion with EC members.

Bylaws Discussion

Dr. Johnson, Girola, and Graves presented an overview of the National NSSLHA bylaws and shared an update on the current review process.

Strategic Planning

Earlier this year, the EC approved National NSSLHA's 2020-2022 Strategic Plan, including goals to:

  1. Build a strong and diverse membership community.
  2. Enhance member understanding and engagement.
  3. Facilitate collaboration and growth.

Dungca reviewed the key performance indicators (KPIs) for these goals and reported that the progress toward desired outcomes is as expected.

Leadership Activity

Cortez led a leadership discussion with EC members on the topic of wellness.
