Executive Council Meeting Report

The NSSLHA Executive Council (EC) met November 18, 2023, at the Westin Boston Seaport District in Boston, Massachusetts. Here, you’ll find the Summary Report of the meeting.

Executive Council members in attendance were President Hailey Kingsbury, President-Elect Aivy Nguyen, Vice President for Finance Izabelle Pinzon, Vice President for Planning George ‘Ged’ Pearson, Vice President for Academic Affairs Tynashia Whitaker, Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy Chanel Hudson, Vice President for Programming (AuD) Whitney Bauman, Vice President for Programming (SLP) Kennedy Wilkins, Vice President for Student State Officers (Western Region) Sierra Morrow, Vice President for Student State Officers (Central  Region) Carolyn Sinak, Vice President for Student State Officers (Northeastern Region) Emilia Gorecki, Vice President for Student State Officers (Southern Region) Lillian Jones, and NSSLHA National Advisor Dr. Belinda Daughrity.

NSSLHA Senior Director Alexis Redmond, ASHA Chief Staff Officer for Operations Kyle Vickers, ASHA Chief Executive Officer Vicki Deal-Williams, ASHA President Robert Augustine, ASHA President-Elect Tena McNamara, ASHA Past President Judy Rudebusch Rich, 2024 and the ASHA Convention Co-Chair for Speech-Language Pathology Jerrold Jackson were in attendance.

Opening Remarks

The Fall 2023 NSSLHA EC business meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2023, by President Hailey Kingsbury.

Convention Debrief Icebreaker

Nguyen led a team building activity with all EC members to identify the rose, bud, and thorns of the ASHA Convention experience.

Strategic Planning Update

Pearson led the group in a discussion of the next steps for developing the 2024-2026 strategic plan. The group brainstormed additional themes to consider and decided to add an additional EC meeting in December to finalize the new plan.

Leadership Activity

Dr. Daughrity led the group in a connections and leadership team building activity.

ASHA 2023 Convention Co-Chairs Update

The 2024 Convention Co-Chair, Jerrold Jackson joined the meeting to share plans for the 2024 Convention in Seattle, Washington and led a discussion about involving students.

ASHA Presidential Team Update

ASHA President Judy Rudebusch Rich, ASHA President-Elect Robert Augustine, ASHA Past President Lynn Williams, ASHA Chief Staff Officer for Operations, Kyle Vickers and Chief Executive Officer Vicki Deal-Williams joined the meeting to discuss current activities at ASHA and gave advice on navigating the leadership pipeline.

National Office Update

Redmond provided information related to closing out convention activities.
